Blockstream vs Coinkite
The Coldcard Q ($319) is also Bitcoin-only with camera-based QR signing, but it adds two secure elements, NFC and microSD, while Jade Plus ($149) relies on a blind PIN oracle.
Blockstream vs Keystone
The Keystone 3 Pro ($149) costs the same as Jade Plus and also signs over QR, but it adds an EAL5+ secure element and multi-coin support, while Jade covers only Bitcoin and Liquid.
Blockstream vs BitBox
The BitBox02 Nova ($149) also has open-source firmware with reproducible builds, but it uses a secure element and connects by USB-C only, while Jade Plus adds Bluetooth and a camera.
About Blockstream
Blockstream sells the Jade hardware wallets for Bitcoin and its Liquid sidechain. The original Jade launched in 2021 and is now sold as Jade Classic ($79). Jade Plus followed in January 2025 at $149, and Jade Core arrived in April 2026 at $99. According to Blockstream, all models run identical firmware and the same blind oracle security model.
Jade Plus has a camera for QR signing, a battery and air-gapped transfers by USB drive or SD card. Jade Core has the same 1.9-inch screen but no camera or battery, while Jade Classic has a smaller 1.14-inch screen and a camera. The Blockstream app runs on desktop, iOS and Android.
No Jade has a secure element: the seed is encrypted on the device, with the key split between Jade and a PIN oracle that Blockstream runs or users host themselves. The firmware is open source with reproducible builds, but no third-party audit has been published.
Open Source
Jade firmware and the PIN oracle server are open source, and reproducible builds let anyone check official firmware against the source.
Privacy
The PIN oracle can be self-hosted and reached over Tor, and a No-Radio firmware variant removes Bluetooth entirely.
Price & Value
Models from $79 to $149 share the same firmware, including on-device multisig registration, Anti-Exfil signing and BIP85.
FAQ About Blockstream Hardware Wallets
Are Blockstream Jade wallets safe without a secure element?
Jade splits the key that decrypts the seed between the device and a blind PIN oracle, and three wrong PINs erase both parts. According to Blockstream, the oracle never learns the PIN or the keys, and a stolen device holds nothing of value to extract. Unlocking depends on reaching an oracle, Blockstream's or your own, and no third-party audit has been published.
Is Blockstream Jade open source?
Yes. The Jade firmware is on GitHub under GPL3, and the PIN oracle server is open source too. Reproducible builds let anyone confirm that official firmware matches the tagged source. Firmware 1.0.38 and 1.0.41 were security releases after reports by outside researchers; the changelog does not describe the issues.
What is the difference between Jade Plus, Jade Core and Jade Classic?
Jade Plus ($149) has a 1.9-inch screen, a camera, a battery and air-gapped transfers by QR, USB drive or SD card. Jade Core ($99) has the same screen but no camera or battery and connects by USB-C or Bluetooth. Jade Classic ($79), the original 2021 model, has a 1.14-inch screen and a camera for QR signing.
Which coins do Blockstream wallets support?
Bitcoin and Liquid, Blockstream's Bitcoin sidechain, including Liquid-issued assets through the Blockstream app. No other blockchains are supported. Lightning is available in the Blockstream app, but it uses a key held by the app rather than by Jade.
