FAQ About SafePal Hardware Wallets
Is SafePal open source?
Partly. SafePal has published firmware application code for the X1 on GitHub since 2023 and for the S1 since 2025, both under the GPL-3.0 licence, and a core version of its mobile app is also public. For the S1 Pro, SafePal says the essential key-generation code is open. The company does not state that the secure element firmware is public.
Is SafePal backed by Binance?
According to SafePal, Binance made a strategic investment in the company in October 2018, and SafePal took part in the first Binance Labs incubation program. Its product pages currently list Binance Labs, Animoca Brands and Superscrypt as backers. SafePal does not publish the terms of the investment or its shareholder structure.
Which SafePal wallets are air-gapped?
The S1 ($49.99) and S1 Pro ($89.99). Both use a camera and QR codes to exchange data with the SafePal app, and SafePal says their USB-C port is used only for charging. The S1 Pro adds an aluminium alloy and tempered glass body. The X1 ($69.99) connects over Bluetooth 5.0 and has no camera.
Has SafePal had security incidents?
In 2021 Kraken Security Labs reported that the S1's tamper detection was ineffective and that a firmware downgrade went undetected; it could not steal funds. SafePal disputed the tamper finding and fixed the downgrade issue in firmware V1.0.24. In August 2026 SafePal disclosed that a flaw in an order-tracking plugin exposed contact and order details of about 39,800 customers; it says no seed phrases or private keys were involved.
How many coins does SafePal support?
SafePal says its app supports more than 200 blockchains. Its token figures vary by listing: the App Store description mentions more than 10,000 cryptocurrencies, while the Google Play description cites more than 200,000 tokens and NFTs. These are company figures, so it is worth checking SafePal's asset list for a specific coin before choosing a device.
