Can't Send Crypto From Your Hardware Wallet — How to Fix It
Transaction won't send? Most often you lack the network's gas token, or the device isn't unlocked and connected. Fix each cause.
Introduction
TL;DR
- Most common cause: no native gas token to pay the fee (e.g. ETH for an ERC-20 token).
- Make sure the device is unlocked, connected, and the right coin app is open.
- Check signing settings (such as blind/clear signing) if a contract interaction is blocked.
- A fee set too low, or network congestion, can stall a transaction.
You need the network's gas token
Fees are paid in a network's native coin. To move an ERC-20 token you need ETH for gas; to move a token on another chain you need that chain's gas coin. If your gas balance is zero, the send will fail — top it up first.
Device must be unlocked and connected
Confirm the device is unlocked, connected, the correct coin app is open, and you approve the transaction on the device screen. The send won't complete until you confirm physically.
Signing settings (blind vs clear signing)
Some contract interactions require a signing setting to be enabled on the device. If a dApp or token transfer is blocked, check the relevant signing option, enabling it only when you understand and trust the transaction.
Fee too low or network congested
A fee set below current network rates can leave a transaction unconfirmed. Increase the fee to the suggested level, and during congestion expect longer waits.
